CMDP Overview

The Data Bank of Chinese Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donors, also known as the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP), is a non-profit organization under the umbrella of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC).

CMDP was established in 1992 and subsequently reactivated in 2001. Its mission is to regulate and administer unrelated hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) donor recruitment, HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) typing and stem cell transplantation for genetically matched donors in China.

By the end of 2023 CMDP has enlisted 3.4 million potential HSC donors and facilitated more than 16,708 HSC donations, including 374 for patients beyond mainland China.

CMDP National Network

CMDP involves a Head Office, 31 Branch Offices and 1 Sample Library, cooperating successively with 20 domestic HLA Typing Laboratories, 12 HLA High-Resolution Typing Confirmation Laboratories, 1 HLA Quality Control Laboratory, 7 Public Cord Blood Banks and more than 240 contracted Transplant/Collection Hospitals. Together, they constitute the national work network.

Under the leadership of the Red Cross Society of China, CMDP cooperates with Transplant/Collection Hospitals, HLA Typing Laboratories, HLA High-Resolution Typing Confirmation Laboratories, HLA Quality Control Laboratories, Sample Libraries, Public Cord Blood Banks, Donor Retention Quality Control Center. Under the guidance of Expert Committee and under the coordination of Branch Offices and Prefectural Offices, CMDP participates in the exchanges ofBMDW and provides patients with services.

How does CMDP work for oversea patients?

How you can get help from CMDP?

China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP) provides unrelated peripheral blood hematopoietic stem cells (PBSC) in overseas donation for clinical treatment purpose. Bone marrow stem cells and cord blood stem cells are not provided. We provides unrelated PBSC for the first donation, DHL and unrelated PBSC for the subsequent donation.

China Marrow Donor Program accepts overseas donation search requests from international registries and our contracted transplant centers for clinical treatment purpose. Individual requests will not be accepted. Our international coordinators are responsible for the international donating process. If you have a HLA type matching search request, contact your local registry or local CMDP contracted transplant center.

All applications should be sent to the international coordinators’ email listed below. We are available 08:30 am - 16:30 pm Beijing time (GST+8) Monday through Friday.

Throughout the donation process, CMDP ensures the security of all data and personal information and strictly follows laws and regulations in China.
